Transfer Student Guide
Welcome to the University of Chicago! We are thrilled that you are joining us this year, and we are excited to meet with you. Transfer students have access to all of the same great Career Advancement resources and services as University of Chicago students and alumni. See below for the services we offer, specifically tailored to transfer students.
Upon acceptance of your admittance, transfer students will be assigned a specific career adviser at Career Advancement dedicated to notifying students about upcoming events, opportunities and important deadlines. Your assigned Career Adviser will send out regular emails updating you and checking in on your internship and career exploration processes.
A transfer student seminar is offered at the beginning of your University of Chicago upon arrival to campus in the fall. Information regarding this event is sent out shortly after acceptance of your offer of admission. This is an extensive program that touches on many different areas of the professional process, including:
- Reviewing your StrengthsQuest assessment
- Resume and cover letter workshops
- Overviews of the experiential education opportunities (Treks, Externships and Grants)
- Information on thousands of internship and full-time opportunities, including the Jeff Metcalf Program
Transfer student programming also includes Transferrable Networks, an evening networking event where you will meet with the previous year's transfer students for advice, guidance and insight into making the most out of your time at UChicago.

UChicago Careers In Programs
The College and Career Advancement offer eight pre-professional programs that are designed to educate and prepare you in your areas of professional interest. These programs are open to all undergraduate students and you can participate in multiple programs at any time. We offer programs in:
- Education Professions
- Health Professions
- Journalism, Arts and Media
- Public and Social Service
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
Transfer students are able to apply to our two selective pre-professional programs: UChicago Careers in Business and UChicago Careers in Education Professions in the summer following your acceptance. You will receive detailed instructions on how to apply from your assigned career adviser. Our other six programs do not require an application and are always open to students at all times.
