UChicago Student Delegation
Career Advancement is excited to partner with the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago to sponsor a delegation of UChicago students to attend the international climate conference, COP29. Career Advancement and EPIC strive to build future leaders in energy and climate change. We believe real world experiences are invaluable to students beginning their career in climate and energy. Students will get the opportunity to meet professionals, researchers, and other students involved in interesting work concerning climate change.
Students at COP28 had a deep enriching experience with the opportunity to connect with thought leaders and diplomats in Climate.
Top highlights this past year included:
Meeting with Breakthrough Energy - funded startups focused on innovative new carbon reduction products.
Having front-row seats to talks with officials like the U.S. Department of State's Assistant Secretary for Energy and Natural Resources Geoffrey Pyatt and U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.
Connecting with McKinsey & Co. leaders focused on financing the global energy transition.
Hearing from award-winning documentary film producers and journalists from the Stanley Center.
Students also had the chance to network with global professionals in energy, climate, activism, agriculture, infrastructure, and finance throughout their time at COP28. Additionally, they had the chance to attend off-site conferences and meetings hosted by leading NGOs like the Atlantic Council.

This year COP29 will be held from November 11 - 22, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Students should plan to travel for a 5-day period in mid-November, with dates to be confirmed this summer.
