UChicago Master’s programs are open to you and can be an excellent choice during the current and expected global economic challengers we will all face. Together with the graduate and professional schools, application deadlines have been extended for select programs to May 1 and standardized testing requirements have been waived.
The College will also provide you unprecedented postgraduate financial support through the new Susanne H. Rudolph Scholarship. The program is named in honor of Susanne Rudolph, former Chair of the Department of Political Science and former Master of the Social Sciences Collegiate Division.
Fourth years who elect to enroll in one of the graduate programs listed at the bottom of this page in the Scholarships and Financial Aid section this coming fall are eligible to receive a one-year Rudolph Scholarship covering up to 50% of the tuition for that program.

Program Description
- Master of Science in the Physical Sciences Division: The program is designed for students who wish to broaden or deepen their knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences. The program allows students to design programs of study to meet their individual needs. Students have the opportunity to take classes and work with faculty members from the Departments of Astronomy &Astrophysics, Biophysical Sciences, Chemistry, Geophysical Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering.
- Master’s Program in Computational and Applied Mathematics: The MCAM program provides students with a solid foundation in modern computational and applied mathematics with coursework in areas such as physics-based modeling, data-based modeling, and scientific computing. Graduates will be prepared to pursue a PhD in CAM or other math-intensive applied sciences or to pursue a professional career in fields such as data analysis, scientific computing, imaging, or engineering.
- Master of Science in Computer Science: This 1-year program offers a comprehensive and professionally-oriented computer science education, combining the foundations of CS with the applied skills necessary for careers in technology. This program can be tailored to the specific career goals or academic background of each student, offering prerequisite and advanced courses for students of all levels. This is a great opportunity for students interested in data analytics, information security, and software engineering to launch their careers!
- Master of Science in Financial Mathematics: Level up in quantitative and computational finance with this program, a modern multidisciplinary deep dive into the ever-evolving financial markets. A pioneer in its field, the program offers an integrated accelerated curriculum that explores the interplay of mathematics, computing and finance, and the practical applications of those powerful ideas, in both the foundational financial modeling and the data-driven machine-learning approaches to the financial markets. Backed by staff who work one-on-one with students to provide coaching, and instructors who engage with students to train for a career search, alumni have gone on to find success at companies such as Barclays, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs.
- Master of Science in Statistics: This 1-year program offers students a comprehensive quantitative education by building foundations in theoretical and applied statistics, methodology, and data analytics, preparing students for careers in data science, information technology, finance, marketing, computing, and a variety of other fields. Students will have the opportunity to build consulting experience while working as a quantitative expert and solving important research problems for other departments across the University. - Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering
- If you loved your engineering internship, you would be a great candidate for the PME’s Master of Science in Molecular Engineering Program, a one-year program designed to prepare students for applied science careers and other professions dealing with technology.
Program Description
- Master of Science in Molecular Engineering: The overall objective of the program is to prepare students for leadership roles in a technological society. The goal for most of the students is to follow traditional engineering paths in manufacturing, technology development, and even research, but many will also follow paths that branch out into diverse fields such as law, medicine, business administration, consulting, entrepreneurship, or policy. For this reason, the MS in Molecular Engineering seeks to guide students toward applied, rather than purely research-oriented, roles.
- Social Sciences Division
- If you want to develop the computational methods necessary to work with very large data, drawing on sophisticated modeling, optimization, machine learning, or visualization, techniques, try the Master of Arts Program in Computational Social Science.
- If you're interested in quantitative social science research positions at research institutions or government agencies, consider the Quantitative Methods and Social Analysis concentration of the Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences.
Program Description
- Master of Arts Program in Computational Social Science: This 2-year program provides students with the tools to analyze data using cutting edge technology and statistical techniques. Students have the opportunity to engage in academic mentorship, conduct novel research for their MA thesis, and attend weekly Computation Workshops to critique the research of advanced scholars. Graduates finish with in-depth knowledge of computational methods as well as discipline-specific research relevant to their next academic or career steps.
- Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences - Quantitative Methods and Social Analysis Concentration: QMSA is a one-year program with 9 graduate-level courses over three academic quarters, culminating in an article-length MA thesis. Students receive rigorous education in statistical theory, advanced quantitative methods, and social scientific research. Each student is mentored directly by a faculty member on the Committee for the MA thesis. International students who graduate from our MAPSS/QMSA Concentration are eligible for three years of work authorization in the U.S., as a STEM-approved field of study.

- Master of Public Policy: This 2-year program is designed to provide students with the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to make data-driven decisions throughout their career. The core curriculum draws on a variety of disciplines, including economics, sociology, political science, statistics, econometrics, political economy, organizational theory, and program evaluation to prepare students for careers in public policy. This is a great opportunity to build transferrable research, analytical, and management skills and to launch you career in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors!
- Master of Arts in Public Policy: This one-year MA program in public policy provides the fundamental understanding of public policy and analytics to complement prior experiences. This program is also available to students enrolling for other graduate programs at the University.
- Master of Arts in Public Policy with Certificate in Research Methods: Master of Arts in Public Policy with Certificate in Research Methods (MACRM) is a 15-month master’s degree program that is part public policy degree, part research apprenticeship, and part intensive research methods training. It’s designed to be a stepping stone to either a PhD or serious quantitative research jobs in academia, think tanks, or policy organizations.
- Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy: The University of Chicago’s rigorous two-year Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MSCAPP) program, among the first in the nation, is jointly offered by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and the Department of Computer Science. Program Description
- Master of Arts in Middle East Studies: This two-year program is specifically designed for students who wish to obtain a broad knowledge of the Middle East through intensive language study and maximum interdisciplinary flexibility. It allows the student to complete two years of intensive study in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, or Turkish language or literature as well as languages of the ancient Near East including Egyptology, Assyriology, and Comparative Semitics. The interdisciplinary nature of the overall program allows for students to enroll through either the Division of the Social Sciences or the Division of the Humanities.

- Master of Arts in Social Work and Welfare: SSA's Master of Arts Program in Social Work and Social Welfare (SW) prepares you to be a leader in the fields of clinical social work and social administration practice. This Master’s degree is equivalent to an MSW, but with a broader educational and experiential foundation that combines direct social work practice with policy development, interdisciplinary research and social science theory.
- Urban Teacher Education Program: This 2-year program combines rigorous coursework with ongoing teaching and community fieldwork experience to prepare students for careers in urban education. After developing a strong foundation in academic and methods coursework, students complete an intensive clinical training in two different school settings. - Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy: The Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy (GPHAP) is a University-wide program housed at the School of Social Service Administration (SSA). It is unique among health administration programs in the United States. Students may earn either a Certificate in Health Administration and Policy or a Certificate in Health Administration and Policy with a Concentration in Global Health, while earning a degree in one of the participating graduate schools on campus: The Booth School of Business, the Harris School of Public Policy, the Law School, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the School of Social Service Administration.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
The College will provide a one-year Susanne H. Rudolph Scholarship covering up to 50% of tuition costs in the 2020-2021 academic year for Class of 2020 College students who enroll in one of the UChicago graduate programs listed below. All Class of 2020 students participating in one of these programs – including students who have already been accepted and students participating in a qualifying program as a joint degree candidate – can be considered for funding. Additional financial aid is also available.
Students who have already secured a University of Chicago scholarship for their graduate program up to or beyond 50% of tuition are not eligible to receive the Rudolph Scholarship. Students who have received a University of Chicago scholarship of less than 50% of tuition may receive a partial Rudolph Scholarship for a pro-rated amount up to 50% of tuition.
The Rudolph Scholarship is available during the following academic quarters:

- Autumn 2020
- Winter 2021
- Spring 2021
If the program extends beyond Spring Quarter 2021, the Financial Aid Office can assist students with loan options available to help cover costs for the remainder of their program.
