Cairo Trek Connects Students with International Opportunities

A group of twelve students journeyed to Cairo to learn more about the career opportunities and innovative work culture in a variety of Egyptian industries. The trek was designed to help students explore how an abstract interest in working abroad could play out in practice: what would it actually be like to live and work in a country like Egypt? To answer this question, the group visited nine organizations representing various industries over three days.

Companies visited:

  • Citadel Capital
  • Americana Group
  • The Egyptian Museum
  • Orascom Hotels and Development
  • Mobinil
  • Orascom Construction Industries | Alumni Host: Omar Dazawah (AB’05)
  • PricewaterhouseCooper
  • Coca-Cola
  • The pyramids of Egypt
  • Additional Alumni: Ramy Darweesh (AB’05)

Learning about business in Egypt, hearing from University of Chicago alumni now working in Cairo, and getting a general feel for the professional climate of the region gave me a good sense of what otherwise would have remained unknowable. Our group was lucky enough to have a full agenda of office visits and speakers that together provided a solid and complete introduction to business life in Cairo.” -Laura Watry (AB’15)
