Students Explore New Career Paths in Cinncinati

Eight UChicago students ranging from first-years to Master's candidates traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio, to meet with representatives from Fifth Third Bankcorp. Students had the opportunity to explore the bank's downtown operations center, and then traveled to the Madisonville Operations Center to get a behind the scenes look.

Fifth Third introduced students to their innovative Leadership Program that offers new college graduates the opportunity to complete four, six-month-long rotations in eight separate divisions.

Students then headed over to Fifth Third's Madisonville Operations Center, where all of the banks transactions are processed. With over 50 million checks processed each year, the center actually boasts its own zip code! Students had the opportunity to hear from Paul Moore, SVP and Division Head of Operations, regarding Fifth Third's technological progression and “Smart ATM” banking.

This trek was many students' first exposure into careers in retail banking, and they were impressed by Fifth Third's hospitality and focus on work-life balance.

I appreciated learning about career opportunities that I hadn't necessarily been exposed to in the past. My initial consideration of careers in finance only involved options like being a trader or an analyst. It was refreshing and definitely eye opening to see opportunities like commercial banking and investment advising available.” -Shashwat Koirala (AB’16)
