UChicago Entrepreneurs Visit Austin for College Break Day

A group of nine students travelled to Austin as part of the inaugural Austin College Break Day Entrepreneurship Trek. The trek focused on exploring some of Austin's most successful start-ups and cutting edge companies. In addition to Career Advancement staff, the group was joined by, alumnus Gary Hoover (AB'73) a long-time Austin entrepreneur and member of the UChicago Alumni Board of Governors.

Companies visited:

  • Capital Factory
  •  GoLab
  • Whole Foods Market
  • Homeaway
  • RetailMeNot
  • Alamo movie theater

The idea of entrepreneurship was such an abstraction to me. It was “Snapchat,” “Instagram,” and other apps with high market valuations that provided questionable social value.  After a wide variety of site visits and speakers on the Austin Trek, I realized entrepreneurship was more than that. It was also about the journey, the pursuit of a passion, and the desire to make an impact.” (Arlene Wang, AB’14)
