UCIEP Offers Inaugural Education Trek to San Francisco

13 students joined UChicago Careers in Education Professions for a trek to explore San Francisco's highly diverse education sector. In addition to traditional teaching roles, the Bay Area offers many opportunities for students in education, including education tech development, nonprofit advocacy, and education research. Employers emphasized that they were seeking flexible staff members who can learn and adapt to rapidly developing new trends in education.

Overall, this trek really made me aware of all the different branches of education, and I would like to further explore the educational sphere, especially involving innovative teaching styles and policy.  It was also inspiring to see how passionate all our speakers were.  I really appreciated all the advice that was shared, and hearing the speakers’ different career paths was fascinating.  In the future, I hope to take more classes on child development and learning as well as continue to be involved in UCIEP." -Becca Hanlin, AB '18
