UCIPPS Hosts the US Department of State

Over 70 students gathered in Ida Noyes Hall on Tuesday, October 22 to hear Ian Kelly, Diplomat in Residence for the Midwest, speak about his experiences and the new paid Foreign Service Internship Program that the State Department announced on Thursday, October 17 after the government shut down ended. Mr. Kelly drew on his own experience to provide students with tips for preparing applications for both the paid and unpaid State Department internships, while also highlighting the Foreign Service Internship Program. This new program provides selected participants with two paid summer internships, the first at State Department offices in Washington, DC and the second at an embassy abroad. Selected students also commit to taking the Foreign Service Exam upon completion of the internship program. Career Advancement works with State Department and other federal government recruiters each year to bring these experts to campus to work with interested students.
