The Jeff Metcalf Internship Program
The Jeff Metcalf Internship Program is the flagship internship program for University of Chicago undergraduate students. Entering its 20th year in 2017, this legacy program recognizes the contributions of Harold “Jeff” Metcalf, AM ’52, who was Dean of Students at the Graduate School of Business (now Chicago Booth) from 1956 to 1975. The program pays tribute to Jeff’s dedication to helping students both within the University and beyond.
Students who complete Metcalf internships work at some of the top organizations across the country and around the world, where they complete substantive projects throughout the summer and academic year. During the 2015 – 2016 academic year, Career Advancement provided 1,950 Metcalf internship opportunities at more than 800 organizations in 35 unique countries.
Benefits of Participating
First and foremost, through the Metcalf Internship Program, employers gain access to an unparalleled talent pool. Our students’ UChicago liberal arts education gives them advanced critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills: Metcalf interns consistently make significant contributions to their host organization. The program’s reputation draws the most talented and motivated students on campus who are eager to gain experience in their areas of interest. You can contribute to our students’ professional development, scout talent for full-time positions, and connect with individuals who may contribute to your organization for years to come. Participating in the Metcalf Program is also an excellent opportunity to increase your organization’s visibility on campus.
Our supportive staff helps manage the hiring process, including arranging remote interviews for international organizations. The flexibility of the Metcalf Program allows employers to seamlessly incorporate students into their own internship programs without any additional requirements.
For employers who request it, UChicago Career Advancement staff will facilitate the applicant screening process and make recommendations for strong candidates. This screening service matches employers with applicants whose professional interests and experiences meet the organization’s unique needs.
