The Jeff Metcalf Internship Program
The Jeff Metcalf Internship Program provides UChicago students with, funded summer and academic-year internships at a wide variety of organizations across the country and around the world. Through the Jeff Metcalf Internship Program, undergraduates at the University of Chicago gain professional experience in educational institutions, museums, non-profits, arts organizations, investment banks, consulting firms, medical research facilities, human rights organizations, legal institutions, and many more. We ensure that the experiences are substantive, project-based, and available to students during the summer and/or academic year.
The Metcalf Internship Program began in 1997 to honor the legacy of Harold “Jeff” Metcalf, AM’53, who was Dean of Students at the Graduate School of Business (now Chicago Booth) from 1956 to 1975.
In 1997, we offered six internships. In 2012, we placed over 500 students in internships in the United States and around the world. And in the 2013-2014 academic year, we reached a significant milestone by placing 1,000 students in paid internship opportunities through the Metcalf Program!

Our supportive staff helps manage the hiring process, including arranging remote interviews for international organizations. The flexibility of the Metcalf Program enables employers to seamlessly incorporate students into their own internship programs without any additional requirements.
For employers who request it, UChicago Career Advancement staff will facilitate the applicant screening process. We work closely with University alumni who review and rank student applications and conduct first-round interviews. This screening service matches employers with applicants whose professional interests and experiences meet the organization’s unique needs.
