Metcalf Application & Selection Process

1. Get Activated for On Campus Recruiting (OCR)

Before you start your Metcalf search, make sure you have the best resume possible by meeting with a career adviser. Your adviser will also activate you for On Campus Recruiting (OCR) during this meeting. Ask for tips on how best to search for Metcalfs on UChicago Handshake.

2. Start Your Metcalf Internship Search

Log in to your UChicago Handshake account. To search for internships, click “Jobs” at the top of your home screen. To limit your search to Metcalf internships, click the “Filters” button below the search bar. In the “Labeled by Your School” section, type “Metcalf” and select “2017-18 Metcalf internship.” You can then click “See Jobs” at the bottom right corner of the filters window to view all currently posted Metcalf internship opportunities.

3. Prepare Your Application Materials

Click on any internship that interests you to see a full job description. Be sure that you meet all requirements specified by the employer before applying. Use the information in the job description to create an effective application. For help with preparing your materials, visit Career Advancement’s resume and interview toolkit or schedule an appointment with a career adviser. If you are seeing the error message “Additional special criteria have been set by your career center. Please contact them for more information” when you view the internship listing on UChicago Handshake, then you have not yet been activated for on-campus recruiting and should schedule an appointment to have your resume reviewed by a career adviser.

4. Submit Your Application

When you’re ready to apply, return to the internship listing in Handshake and click the green “Apply Now” button on the righthand side of your screen. You will then be able to upload your application materials. Be sure to label your documents to reflect the employer and position that you’re applying to. When you’re ready to submit, click “Apply.” Need to upload a transcript or test scores? Visit the Metcalf FAQ for more information.
