Journalism, Cinematic Arts, and Media Exploration Program in Los Angeles, CA
The Journalism, Cinematic Arts, and Media Program is a four-day career exploration experience led by Career Advancement’s UChicago Careers in Journalism, Arts, and Media (UCIJAM) program for up to 20 incoming first-year students. The program will provide an overview of the current media, entertainment, and storytelling landscape through visits to film studios, television networks, and broadcast outlets. As part of the experience students will get a chance to meet other incoming students with interests in these fields, meet industry leaders and UChicago alumni, build community, and soak up the Hollywood sunshine!
Journalism, arts and media converge and flourish at the University of Chicago. Through the University of Chicago's strong liberal arts curriculum, and the new Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, students pursue multiple interdisciplinary areas, even as they become experts in specific areas of interest. As part of Career Advancement, UChicago Careers in Journalism, Arts, and Media (UCIJAM) provides essential professional development opportunities to help students launch successful careers in these fields. Internships, fellowships, employment opportunities, and alumni networks take UChicago students across the country and around the globe, allowing them to grow outside the classroom, develop as professionals, and pursue opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines. UCIJAM also sponsors apprenticeships that allow students to collaborate with local mentors on projects that advance their creative and professional goals.
The exploration program is designed for students eager to begin career exploration in the field of journalism, cinematic arts, and media, regardless of their industry experience. The program will provide participants with the opportunity to meet seasoned professionals and leaders across different companies and engage in meaningful interactions with fellow classmates, upperclassmen, and alumni. Through cohort-based activities led by a Career Advancement staff member, students will also explore the city and have a chance to connect with other members of the incoming class prior to their start at the University. All participants will be matched with a roommate for lodging purposes and will have the opportunity to engage with other program participants online prior to start of the program.
$1,000. Includes lodging, meals, local transportation between site visits, and the cost of organized group activities. Need-based financial aid available (including assistance with travel).
