Work & Activities

This section requires you to list and describe up to 15 activities outside of your coursework – similar to a resume you’d provide for a standard job application, but with more room for detail.

  • Describe or summarize each experience in 700 characters or fewer

  • Not all activities need to be related to science or medicine

  • In most cases, high school actives should not be included

  • Enter your descriptions as plain text with out formatting or bullet points

  • You may identify up to 3 experiences you consider to be the most meaningful

    • This designation will allow you an additional 1,325 characters to explain why the experience(s) was particularly meaningful to you

Most applicants do not use all 15 spaces in this section, nor do they have experiences in all categories provided. Experience categories include:

  • Artistic Endeavors

  • Community Service

  • Conferences Attended

  • Extracurricular Activities

  • Honors, Awards, & Recognitions

  • Intercollegiate Athletics

  • Military Service

  • Paid Employment

  • Physician Shadowing & Clinical Observation

  • Presentations & Posters

  • Publications

  • Research & Lab Work

  • Teaching, Tutoring, or Teaching Assistantships

CASS Resource

Work and Activities Workshop: An introduction to the Work and Activities section of the AMCAS. Students bring a resume and work together to convert it to the AMCAS format. We cover what activities to include, how to classify them, and how to write a compelling and clear description. Participants leave with a draft of their three most meaningful activities.
