As associate vice president and executive director of Career Advancement, Meredith Daw directly manages undergraduate career services and serves as a member of the leadership team for undergraduate admissions and financial aid. During her tenure, the College has achieved a 96% rate of recent graduates having substantive plans, expanded relationships with employers throughout the world, partnered with the professional schools to provide students with unprecedented industry knowledge and expertise, and piloted new initiatives to support underrepresented students.
Meredith designed and implemented a unique career services delivery model that emphasizes early student engagement, industry expertise, and experiential learning. This model has given all first-year students access to a dedicated career adviser, created 11 new specialized pre-professional programs in partnership with the professional schools to prepare students for careers in specific industries, and increased the number of paid internships from 177 in 2007 to 4,000+ opportunities today.
These initiatives have also significantly expanded the College’s employer base to a network of 1,000+ organizations that hire UChicago talent or participate in recruiting programs such as the College’s 50+ annual career “treks,” which bring students off-campus to visit employers throughout the U.S. and around the world.
Under Meredith's leadership, Career Advancement has also launched several new resources to support underrepresented students, including professional development programming celebrating diversity in the workplace and dedicated internship programs for Odyssey Scholars, first-generation students, and students from rural areas.
Meredith holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. From 2018-2019, Meredith served as an appointed member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
