Working Abroad 

Whether students are seeking a short-term international experience or a lifelong career abroad, Career Advancement can assist them with securing on-site or virtual professional opportunities outside of the United States. In addition to personalized advising, Career Advancement offers several professional development programs that help students explore and prepare for working abroad, including the Jeff Metcalf Internship Program, the Wanxiang Ambassador Fellows Program, career exploration “trek” site visits, and grants that fund living expenses for students completing unpaid internships with employers based outside of the United States. Learn more about working abroad

Jeff Metcalf Internship Program 

The Jeff Metcalf Internship Program provides paid, substantive on-site and virtual internships exclusively to UChicago students in 50+ countries each year.  Previous Metcalf interns have worked in a variety of countries, including Belgium, China, France, Greece, India, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Zambia. International Metcalf employers represent a diverse range of industries, including education, financial services, government, nonprofits, public policy, and many more.  Learn more about Metcalfs

Career Treks 

Career treks are one to three day experiences that give students the opportunity to connect with industry-specific employers in a particular city or region, either in-person or virtually. International treks allow students to experience another country’s work culture firsthand and familiarize themselves with professional opportunities in the area. Previous international trek destinations include Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Tokyo, and Zurich. Learn more about Treks

Grants

Career Advancement offers grants to fund unpaid internship opportunities. Students identify and secure their own internship and then apply for grant funding. Previous recipients of these grants have used their funding to pursue on-site and virtual internships and summer research opportunities in countries across 5 continents, including Brazil, Cambodia, China, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Jordan, Rwanda, and Spain. Learn more about grants
