Metcalf Clinics are a co-op, project-based training program for students to develop skills and enhance career outcomes. In this part-time paid internship, teams of undergraduates take a deep dive into a professional area of interest and build relevant experience. Metcalf Clinics also provide major benefits to employer partners, including talent scoping and project support.
Students are placed on teams to lead research. During the two-quarter program, teams receive access to professional development coaching by a UChicago Career Advancement advisor, mentorship by industry experts, and the opportunity to network with successful alumni. Metcalf Clinics are a terrific way to hone professional development in technical research, analysis, strategic planning, and presentation skills.
2023-24 Metcalf Clinics Project
This year’s Metcalf Clinics are with Blackthorne Capital Management (BCM), a quantitively-oriented, multi-asset, futures trading firm which relies heavily on alternative data sources to create its trading models. BCM will be partnering with ten UChicago students to explore the power of Generative AI in creating advantage in the financial trading arena.
Metcalf Clinic interns will identify and review research documents which incorporate or leverage Generative AI as an approach to analysis or problem solving and will then develop trading applications based on these findings.
