During the week of March 31 - April 4, Career Advancement will present Careers in the Humanities Week 2025, a series of workshops and panels dedicated to exploring and promoting diverse career options for students of the arts and humanities. A humanities degree prepares students for many exciting career paths, including the arts, consulting, digital media, entertainment, publishing, and more!

Jeff McClusky has played a pivotal role in the exposure of music and contemporary recording artists for over 40 years. His extensive network of relationships has been a resource as a music consultant and strategic intermediary between brands, advertising agencies, and the music industry at large. JMA's diverse client base includes major and independent record labels, publishing companies, Internet music companies, artist management firms and film companies. JMA provides radio/streaming promotion, artist development and management services to artists from all genres, such as U2, Arcade Fire, Lorde, Cage the Elephant, Ed Sheeran, Cardi B and Chance the Rapper.

“Iranian Hillbilly” - Pulitzer Center Fellow Andy Sarjahani | Register
Andy Sarjahani is an Iranian-American journalist, documentary filmmaker and cinematographer who was raised outside the Arkansas Ozarks. His work focuses on human ecology, climate change adaptation, threats to democracy, masculinity, and the nuances within the American South. Sarjahani holds a master's degree in sustainable agriculture/food systems. He has worked as a documentary cinematographer for VICE, Al Jazeera, Story Syndicate, PBS, and multiple documentaries. His personal work has been supported by the Pulitzer Center, ITVS, The New Yorker, Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), Doc NYC, the New Orleans Film Society, Southern Documentary Fund, Reel South, PBS, among others. His debut feature documentary, Iranian Hillbilly, was a Southern Documentary Fund 2022 production grant recipient and the winner of the New Orleans Film Festival 2022 South Pitch. Sarjahani is a 2023 CAAM fellow and a 2023 PBS Wyncote fellow.

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Jacqueline Stewart (Turner Classic Movies, UChicago) and Ben Kolak (Truth & Documentary) about summer internship opportunities with the South Side Home Movie Project, Arts and Public Life, Truth & Documentary, and more.
Jacqueline Stewart founded the South Side Home Movie Project, a community-centered archival program housed at the University of Chicago’s Arts + Public Life that will celebrate its 20th year in 2025. She is chair of the National Film Preservation Board, and former director and president of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. She is host of “Silent Sunday Nights” on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Stewart is the recipient of numerous honors including a 2021 MacArthur Fellowship, the 2023 Silver Light Award from the Association of Moving Image Archivists, and the 2024 Distinguished Career Achievement Award from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies. She was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018.
Ben Kolak is a documentary cinematographer and director focused on social change, education and the arts. He manages Truth & Documentary LLC, a 5-person production company serving non-profits, artists, journalism outlets and documentary filmmakers to underwrite original documentaries designed to inspire audiences to question the familiar and build empathy. Ben was a founding partner of Scrappers Film Group LLC in 2012, which rebranded as Truth & Documentary in 2020.

UChicago in Hollywood: Featuring Producer Susan Levison (WWE, Bob’s Burgers, Cirque Du Soleil) and Screenwriter Eli Edelson (Netflix, Disney) | Register
Susan Levison has been the creative and business engine behind some of the biggest hits and most critically acclaimed series on television. Levison most recently served as Senior Vice President and Head of WWE Studios. Based in Los Angeles, she was tasked with the creative and operational relaunch of WWE’s global content studio. Under her guidance, WWE Studios sold and produced series in all genres of storytelling, including animation, live action, features, unscripted, and documentaries, both domestically and internationally.
After graduating from the University of Chicago, Eli Edelson returned to his hometown of New York to work in film finance and production at FilmNation Entertainment. After a period working in TV development at Miramax, he transitioned to being a writers’ assistant for drama shows on FOX (BONES), Netflix (UNBELIEVABLE), and Max (RAISED BY WOLVES) before being promoted to writer.
